The Royal Barenbrug Group, a global grass-seed industry leader, has entered an agreement for its UK business to acquire Watson Group, an independent seed specialist agricultural seed wholesaler. The acquisition will strengthen Barenbrug’s business in the UK while enabling Watson Group to consolidate its own growth.
Based in Scotland, Watson Group is a family business founded 33 years ago by fifth-generation seedsman Johnny Watson. The company is well known and respected in the UK seed industry, with both retail and wholesale activities, and has seen significant growth in recent years. Barenbrug UK has been a major supplier to Watson Group over the years, and the companies share similar values of integrity, trust, quality, and customer-centricity.
Watson Group will add retail capabilities and strengthen the Scottish presence of Barenbrug’s UK operations. Barenbrug will also be able to combine Watson Groups’ on-farm trials and variety observation work with its own Scottish variety trials to complement its well-established grass-breeding programme. This will all enable Barenbrug to continue growing in the grass-seed marketplace in the UK.
For Watson Group, the acquisition will provide access to Barenbrug’s expert grass-seed knowledge, high-quality genetics and material, and technical support. These resources will give Watson Group an opportunity to consolidate and continue its growth.
Following the acquisition, Barenbrug UK and Watson Group will continue to function as separate identities. They will maintain the same business relationships and ensure customers continue to receive the high-quality services they are used to, while benefiting from each other’s expertise.

Barenbrug sluit overeenkomst voor overname Britse zadenspecialist Watson Group
De Koninklijke Barenbrug Groep, wereldwijd marktleider in de graszaadsector, heeft een overeenkomst gesloten met betrekking tot de overname van Watson Group, een onafhankelijke zaad groothandel die gespecialiseerd is in landbouwzaden, door Barenbrug UK. De overname zal de activiteiten van Barenbrug in het Verenigd Koninkrijk versterken en tegelijkertijd Watson Group in staat stellen haar eigen groei te bestendigen.
Watson Group, gevestigd in Schotland, is een familiebedrijf dat 33 jaar geleden werd opgericht door Johnny Watson, die deel uitmaakt van de vijfde generatie zaadhandelaren. Het bedrijf geniet een goede reputatie in de Britse zaadindustrie, met zowel retail- als groothandelsactiviteiten, en heeft de afgelopen jaren een aanzienlijke groei doorgemaakt. Barenbrug UK is al jaren een belangrijke leverancier van Watson Group en de bedrijven delen dezelfde waarden: integriteit, vertrouwen, kwaliteit en klantgerichtheid.
Watson Group voegt ruime kennis op het gebied van retail toe aan Barenbrug en versterkt tegelijkertijd de positie van het bedrijf op de Schotse markt. Watson Group krijgt door de overname toegang tot Barenbrug’s deskundige kennis van graszaden, hoogwaardige genetica en materiaal, en technische ondersteuning. Deze middelen stellen Watson Group in staat om haar groei te bestendigen.
Na de overname blijven Barenbrug UK en Watson Group als afzonderlijke entiteiten opereren. Ze zullen dezelfde zakelijke relaties onderhouden en ervoor zorgen dat klanten de hoogwaardige diensten blijven ontvangen die ze gewend zijn. Tegelijkertijd zullen ze profiteren van elkaars expertise.
