On Friday, July 16 the Draft Order “On Approval of List of Food Products regarding which GMO Control is Realized” was placed at the official web-site of the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine for public consideration.
According to the Regulatory Analysis, the Draft Order is aimed at regulation of GMO products turnover and production made using GMO, determine their list for public disclosure as well as improving safety and quality of food products that will preserve public health and also contribute to the competitiveness of domestic food products.
The list includes soybeans and its products (20 items), maize and its products (14 items), potato and its products (14 items), tomatoes and products (6 items), squash and products (2 items), watermelon and products (2 items), papaya and products (2 items), chicory, sugar beet and products (2 items), rapeseed and products (3 items), flax, cotton (cotton oil), wheat and products (2 items), sunflower (2 items), rice and products (5 items), rapeseed (canola) and products, strawberry, coffee beans, and tea. It also includes baby food and raw materials for their production, food products for special dietary use, functional foods, dietary supplements, food additives, leaven, yeast culture and products that contain them.
The document is open for comments and proposals for a month since the day of publishing.
