The latest newsletter from the BIOCOMES project (‘New biological control products for sustainable farming and forestry’) is now available, bringing readers up to date with progress on their work to develop 11 new products to control a number of important pests and diseases.

One report in the newsletter covers the development of a unique aphid identification guide designed to help fruit growers and researchers correctly identify aphids in tree fruit crops. It enables users to identify different aphid species appearing in almond, apricot, blackthorn, cherry plum, peach, pear, plum and cherry orchards. Pictures and clear descriptions help to identify the correct aphid in just a few steps. You can visit the guide here.

The newsletter also includes details of the consortium’s upcoming workshop for young scientists on the development of biological control products. This is being held in Germany in January, 2017. You can read more on the ENDURE website here or on the BIOCOMES website here.

The newsletter also contains details of a slideshare presentation providing the latest BIOCOMES update on powdery mildew research and how the project is working on a sustainable biocontrol agent against powdery mildew. You can see the slideshare here

Other stories include updates on the project’s work on pine weevils and entomopathogenic viruses
