Texas, USA
July 28, 2016

It is with the most profound sadness that we report the death of Steve Brown.  Steve was a long-time member of the Texas Seed Trade Association serving on the Board of Directors several times.

Steve became Program Director of Texas Foundation Seed Service in the fall of 2001 after spending 27 years in private sector agribusiness. During his time in the private sector, he managed a diversified company that was involved with seed production and distribution, commercial grain operations, and livestock feed manufacturing. His business experience in seed spans from seed production and sales to day to day management of the companies involved in these agribusiness ventures.

Steve died Wednesday morning, July 27, as the result of an automobile accident on his way to work at Texas Foundation Seeds.  Steve's funeral will be Saturday in Vernon and we will pass along more details of the arrangements as soon as they are made available.

Robert Steven Brown went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in Vernon, Texas.  Visitation is from 6-7PM Friday at the Chapel of the Sullivan Funeral Home located at 1801 Houston St. Vernon, Texas. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Gib Baskerville officiating. The church is at 2003 Fannin Street. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery.

Steve was born April 19, 1951 in Lubbock, Texas. He was the son of June and Doug Brown. He graduated from Vernon High School in 1969 and from Texas Tech University in 1974 with a BBA. He married Janel Ann Bolton on May 22, 1971. Steve lived most of his life in Vernon. Steve was the former vice president of Crown Quality Seed and later as Program Director for Texas Foundation Seed Service. He was also a member of the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies and the Texas Seed Trade Association. He was the recipient of the Texas A&M AgriLife Vice Chancellor's Award in Excellence in recognition of excellence as a member of the TAM Wheat Improvement Team in Team Collaboration in 2012.

Steve will be remembered for his robust laughter, gregarious personality, his great love and devotion to his family and friends and his special love for his canine friends Don and Karlie.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a past member of the Vernon Lions Club and the Palomino Club where he served as rodeo chairman for many years.

Steve is survived by his wife, Jan of the home, son Matthew and wife Mary Ann of London, U.K., his parents June and Doug Brown of Omaha, Texas, his brother Alan Brown and wife Charlotte of Branson, Missouri, sister Nancy Sosolik and husband Benton of Waco and the joys of his life, his granddaughters, Madelyne Brown of Lubbock, Texas and Florence and Eadie Blaker Brown of London, U.K. He called Jan, Madelyne, Florence and Eadie his beautiful girls.
