EuroWheat, the European knowledge hub which has its origins in the original ENDURE Network of Excellence (2007-2010), now has a new website and logo. As EuroWheat explains on its new site, wheat remains one of Europe’s most important crops and its production faces some particular challenges.
These include the emergence of new aggressive strains of important pathogens for which early warning tools are required, the limited access to fungicides and widespread cases of fungicide resistance.
“We have identified that still many data and information related to wheat Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is scattered and fragmented. By collating and analysing this information - cross countries, cross institutions and cross public and private sector institutions and companies - we believe we can make a difference as a European knowledge hub, supporting the ongoing IPM implementation in EU,” says EuroWheat. It adds that with its focus on one major crop, EuroWheat can be used as a showcase for optimising IPM and sustainable crop production in Europe.
The new site, hosted by Denmark’s Aarhus University, includes sections dedicated to:
- Pathogens
- Cultivars
- Fungicide resistance
- Wheat IPM tools and information (Decision Support Systems in Europe, control thresholds for diseases, impact of cultural practices on disease development and control thresholds for seed-borne diseases)
- News and Events
