Lallemand expands its plant care division through the acquisition of Lage y Cía

Montevideo, Uruguay
May 1, 2016

Lallemand Inc., a global leader in the development, production and marketing of yeast, bacteria and other microorganism, announced today the acquisition of Uruguay-based Lage y Cía. The newly-acquired company will be included in Lallemand Plant Care, the company’s business unit focused in the use of yeasts, bacteria and fungi as biocontrol, biostimulant and biofertilizer agents in agriculture, horticulture and forestry.

With over 38 years’ experience in developing and producing inoculants, legume seed treatments and other biological crop management inputs in Uruguay, Lage y Cía is a pioneer in their business in Latin America. The addition of the company to Lallemand’s Plant Care division brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and innovative product development to the privately-owned Canadian company.

“We are very excited with the opportunities associated with becoming a part of Lallemand Plant Care after having been close collaborators for the past 3 years”, said Carlos Lage Zerboni, founder of Lage y Cía.

Lage y Cía will expand Lallemand Plant Care’s presence in Latin America, increase its production capacity, bolster its R&D activities, and further cement Lallemand Plant Care as one of the leading global actors in the biological crop inputs market.
