As part of the transaction, Gro Alliance will discontinue the use of the Precision Alliance Group packaging facilities and consolidate seed corn packaging in Cuba City, WI. Gro Alliance will continue to grow and dry seed in Whiting, IA with Ansco Seed and in Howe, IN with Lord’s Seed as well as other selected partners as it will continue to fulfill long-standing contracts and relationships with several clients.

 

“This really was the right move at the right time for Gro Alliance,” said Lou Schweigert, President of Gro Alliance. “We have a responsibility to our clients to be a reliable and future-focused seed corn producer and right-sizing our capacity to better line up with client needs is an appropriate step.”

 

Over the past several years, Gro Alliance has invested heavily in information management systems, training and processing equipment, specifically at the Cuba City location. Recently, Gro Alliance revamped its ISO registration to upgrade to the 9001:2008 standard and has increased the packaging capacity of the Cuba City location by more than 50 percent. 

 

After five years of record production volume for Gro Alliance, the Schweigerts are looking at the future of seed corn production differently than most. “To some, it is still only about volume,” Schweigert said.  “But after the surge in production capacity construction over the last three years, there isn’t a need for new capacity in the industry. Seed corn production has always been about quality, service and good relationships with your clients. That is what Gro Alliance was built on and now with 100 percent ownership, our family will ensure that it remains that way well into the future.”
