South Cone Agriculture forms executive team to launch operations in Brazil

Dublin, Ireland
August 5, 2008

South Cone Agriculture, PLC (SCA) has hired three high level professionals to carry out its strategy implementation in Brazil and initiate studies for its first plantation activities.

The first plantation is expected to happen before the end of the year, most likely in November. The professionals hired by SCA have a combined 65 years of agriculture background in different Brazilian regions with different commercial crops.

Ian Cavanaugh, SCA's Chairman, conducted the selection process with the help of local executive search firms and opened the company's local office in Sao Paulo, Brazil's main business center. "We hope to finish our strategic planning in less than 90 days", he said.

SCA's initial plantations will be in Brazil's arid Northeast region, where land is low priced and the infrastructure is adequate. SCA's plan is to lease land without locking up capital in fixed assets during its development phase.

The first crops to be developed will be castor - Brazil used to be the largest world producer until the early eighties - and jatropha.
