Latham Hi-Tech Seeds’ relationships with the world’s leading seed genetics companies will again give Latham customers access to the latest in seed traits and technology for the 2014 growing year.
New technologies and products from Latham available for planting this fall include corn seeds that offer improved drought resistance, enhanced protection against rootworm, corn borer and herbicide, and refuge-in-a-bag benefits. The company will also offer an alfalfa seed that does well in saline soil and continues to monitors promising technology developments in soybeans.
“Our relationships with leading seed technology innovators, such as Monsanto, Dow AgroSciences, BASF, Syngenta and more, put Latham customers first in line for the latest seed technology built into Latham® branded products,” said John Latham, president of Latham Hi-Tech Seeds. “Because we are family-owned and independent, our customers have the best choice of all these technologies. Our 2014 lineup solidifies our position as offering the broadest, deepest product portfolio in the seed industry.”
The Latham team stays current on what’s in the pipeline for all the major technology players. Each new technology and product is put through rigorous testing and evaluation before it goes in a Latham bag. Latham sales representatives work with each customer to find the best, most cost-effective seed for his or her specific growing conditions in every acre of their fields.
New Latham products for the 2014 season include the following technologies.
Corn:
- Genuity® SmartStax® RIB Complete –It’s the leading dual-mode-of-action technology in the corn marketplace. Latham is proud to introduce 6 new hybrids stacked with this technology for 2014.
- Genuity® Triple PRO® RIB Complete – This technology was the leading seller for Latham in 2013 and looks to be the right fit for above- and below-ground protection. Latham has 5 new products stacked with Triple PRO.
- Genuity® Double PRO® RIB Complete – Double PRO offers the right amount of technology for farmers with a corn-soybean rotation. Latham has 7 new hybrids stacked with this technology.
- Agrisure Artesian™ – Developed by Syngenta, Artesian products exhibit season-long drought protection to increase yield in moisture-stressed fields. Latham will offer two hybrids, LH 4974 3011A and LH 6412 GTA, with this fascinating new trait for 2014 planting.
- Genuity® DroughtGard™ – This is the seed industry’s first biotech trait offering drought tolerance for fields where lack of rainfall would normally limit yields from 70 to 130 bushels per acre. LH 6444 VT2 PRO DG is the first Latham product with this added protection.
- Agrisure 3122™ – Speaking of LH 5495 3122, this is the first Syngenta-traited hybrid in the Latham lineup that carries two modes of action with rootworm, corn borer and herbicide protection. This technology combines the Agrisure CB/LL, Agrisure RW, Agrisure GT, Herculex 1 and the Herculex RW trait for advanced protection.
- Agrisure Duracade™ – Duracade is a brand new mode of action for corn rootworm control and will be combined with Agrisure RW to give two modes of action. Latham is proud to announce LH 5839 5122 hybrid with Agrisure Duracade for 2014 planting.
Alfalfa
- Salt Tolerant Alfalfa – LH 9300 ST was developed to provide high quality alfalfa in soils that are saline in nature. Preliminary data indicates that the salt content of these soils may decrease after several years of forage production with this product.
Soybeans
- Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® –The next generation of Roundup Ready technology is giving Latham customers even higher yields. Latham is pleased to offer 12 new Latham brands with this technology. Four of these new products are classified with the IRONCLAD™ designation by Latham because of their strong defensive characteristics, including Iron Chlorosis, Cyst Nematode and others.
- LibertyLink® Soybeans – Liberty Link is proving to be a great alternative for farmers battling glyphosate resistant weeds. Latham has 2 new LibertyLink brands for 2014.
The Latham product development teams continue to monitor and evaluate all of the traits and technologies proposed for 2014 and beyond, as well as any others that look promising for its trade area.
“We look at a lot of new technologies, but ultimately, we offer only those products that fit our customers’ needs, have solid genetics behind them and can pass our stringent evaluations,” said Latham. “Because we only answer to our customers — not shareholders or a larger corporate owner — Latham is solely motivated to offer customers seeds that yield, regardless of where the technology comes from. We’re excited about our 2014 additions to our already broad lineup. We anticipate nearly 90% of our corn products will be sold as refuge in a bag (RIB).”
