Verdant Partners expands its consulting practice; Mike Mazzocco named Director of Verdant AgriBusiness Consultants

Champaign, Illinois
October 1, 2009

Verdant Partners LLC announced today that it has significantly broadened its consulting practice through the formation of a separate business unit named Verdant AgriBusiness Consultants. Headquartered in Champaign, Illinois, Verdant AgriBusiness Consultants will provide confidential strategic advice and business management direction for privately held companies, public corporations, technology companies, and other food and agribusiness organizations whose business depends on production agriculture. Verdant AgriBusiness Consultants will focus on strategic business plan development, technology strategy and alliances, market and industry analysis, feasibility studies, post-merger integration, as well as other management consulting projects.

Dean V. Cavey, Managing Partner of Verdant Partners LLC, said "While Verdant Partners is known as the leading crop genetics industry transaction adviser our consulting practice has been focused on seeds and overshadowed by the more public nature of our highly successful transaction business. Through the formation of Verdant AgriBusiness Consultants, we will now focus more resources and attention on the growth and expansion of our global consulting practice and the acceleration of that growth to include other fields of agribusiness beyond seeds and traits."

Verdant Partners also announced that Michael A. Mazzocco, Ph.D., will become Director of Verdant AgriBusiness Consultants effective November 1, 2009.

Before joining Verdant AgriBusiness Consultants, Michael A. Mazzocco was a faculty member at the University of Illinois with appointments in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, the Department of Business Administration, and the Executive Development Center. An Illinois faculty member since 1990, he was Director of the Food and Agribusiness Management Program from 1995 through 2006, Assistant Dean for Corporate Relations in the College of Agricultural Consumer and Environmental Sciences (2004-2006), and Interim Director of the Office of Corporate Relations for the University of Illinois (2006-2008).

Dean Cavey added, "We are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Mazzocco join Verdant AgriBusiness Consultants and are confident that his experience and leadership skills will be a great resource to Verdant's consulting clients."

Verdant Partners provides transactional and strategic advisory services to the global crop genetics industry. Services include mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic alliances. Since its founding in 1998, Verdant Partners has initiated and managed transactions valued in excess of U.S. $1.5 billion.

Verdant AgriBusiness Consultants provides business consulting services to a wide variety of international agribusiness clients. Services include strategic plan development and implementation, technology opportunities assessment and identification, market and industry analysis, post-merger integration plans and management, financial planning and evaluation, as well as other forms of consulting services.
