First approvals of GM crops in Turkey

Turkey approves first three soybean events: A2704-12 , MON40-3-2 and MON89788-1 to be used exclusively as animal feed or feed ingredient.

 

 

As reported in the "Official Gazette" from 26th January 2011 the approvals were issued by the Turkish Biosafety Board basing on the Turkish Biosafety Law 5977 under the Simplified Procedure after considering reports prepared by Scientific Risk Assessment Committee and Socio-Economic Assessment Committee.

 

 

Applicant: Turkish Feed Millers Association

 

 

Board has decided that the soybean containing herbicide tolerant gene can be used as animal feed under compliance with a series of conditions - see full texts of the decisions in English (provisional translation) and Turkish.
