UC Davis Plant Breeding AcademySM (PBA) is a professional certificate program offered since 2006 with classes in USA, Europe, Africa and Asia. To date, the program has trained more than 350 breeders, 70% of which are from the private seed industry. Class VIII of the PBA Davis will start in September 2020 and is now open for applications.
PBA is a postgraduate program that teaches the fundamentals of plant breeding, genetics and statistics through lectures, discussion, and field trips to public and private breeding programs. The 2020 class core curriculum will maintain upgrades from the previous classes and add modules to address the most recent developments in plant breeding theory and practice.
The core instructor list includes internationally recognized experts in plant breeding and seed technology:
Kent Bradford (UC Davis)
Allen Van Deynze (UC Davis)
Rale Gjuric (UC Davis)
Rita Mumm (University of Illinois)
Todd Wehner (NCSU)
Core instructors will be supported by a number of guest lecturers from the private industry and academia.
Employers appreciate the opportunity to provide their valued employees advanced training without disrupting their full-time employment. Participants attend six 6-day sessions over approximately two years.
