The programme for the European Conference on Crop Diversification, which will run from September 18 through to September 21, 2019, in Budapest, Hungary, is now available. It is being organised by DiverIMPACTS (Diversification through Rotation, Intercropping, Multiple Cropping, Promoted with Actors and value-Chains towards Sustainability) and other projects targeting crop diversification.
The organisers note: “The objective of the European Conference on Crop Diversification is to explore how we can achieve the full potential of agri-food system diversification for improved productivity, delivery of ecosystem services, resource-efficient and sustainable value chains. Moreover, it provides a platform to discuss the implications of implementing more integrated sociotechnical systems (i.e. which facilitate co-innovation across research and development, education, advisory, business and policy sectors). The focus will be on all scientific aspects of agri-food system diversification, including support for practical implementation of crop diversification in value chains and policy-related issues.”
In addition to international key speakers, parallel sessions will be dedicated to:
- Co-designing crop diversification: which actors to include beyond the farm?
- Co-designing crop diversification at the field level: what do actors want?
- Niche management and diversification projects: how to turn theory into action and vice versa?
- Connecting actors to foster crop diversification: how to turn theory into action and vice versa?
- Enhancing agrosystem resilience and performances by crop diversification
- Quantifying the economic value of crop diversification benefits
- Capturing the carry-over effects in diversified systems
- Cropping system diversification to support biocontrol and soil microbial functional diversity
- Impacts of introducing service crops and legumes in cropping systems
- Impacts of intercropping as a diversification strategy
- Impacts of strip cropping and composite populations as diversification strategies
- Performances of diversified agroforestry systems
- Breeding for intraspecific diversity
- Breeding for interspecific mixtures
- Designing and optimizing interspecific mixtures
- Barriers, lock ins, enablers and practical experiences of crop diversification
- Valuing crop diversification products
- Tools to design, manage and monitor diversified systems from the field to the landscape levels
- Policy recommendations to make the sociotechnical systems more disposed to crop diversification
