Seed Force Australia confirmed today that RGT Planet spring barley has received malting accreditation approval from Barley Australia.
Bruce Garett, Seed Force group managing director, said the company was pleased to achieve this significant milestone.

Bruce Garrett, Group Managing Director
“Receiving this accreditation is wonderful and the culmination of a lot of work by our team and our breeder partner RAGT.
“It will give Australian growers greater confidence in the value of planting RGT Planet, which has performed above expectations around the country, even under some very trying conditions.
“It is a positive outcome for the production of high-value crops that have strong local and export market potential.”
Seed Force and RAGT have been testing and developing RGT Planet locally for the past seven years.
Samuel Gasté, new markets director with RAGT, said the accreditation provides a wonderful opportunity for Australian growers.

Samuel Gaste, New Markets Director, RAGT Semences France
“RGT Planet is the world’s first global barley variety with trials, production and processing in more than 44 countries across Europe, North and South America and Africa.
“It has the capacity to adjust to its environment and deliver high yield and good quality malt wherever it is grown, bringing genetic diversity to the Australian malting market for the benefit of the whole industry – farmers, grain consolidators, maltsters and brewers.
“With its global profile, we believe it has the potential to lift the size of the whole malting barley market, so that more high quality Australian barley can find a high value home.”
RGT Planet barley has already been tested by several of Australia’s brewers and distillers, including Coopers, CUB, Lion and others. It is approved for malting in different parts of the world by Malteurop, Boortmalt, Groupe Soufflet, Cargill, Viking Malt and many others. It is used by many international brewers including ABInBev, SAB Miller, Heineken, Carlsberg, Diageo, Coors and San Miguel.
