Thomas M. Burrus, president and chief executive officer of Burrus Seed has died, the company has confirmed. Burrus, 68, passed away at home Saturday, October 28, of natural causes.
“All of us at Burrus Seed are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our President and CEO, Tom Burrus. For more than 40 years, Tom has led the company with tremendous leadership and a steady hand,” said Olivia Rahe, communications associate.
Located in Arenzville, Illinois, Burrus Seed was founded in 1935. Mr. Burrus worked at the company full-time since graduating from Illinois College in 1971. He will be remembered as a man who loved to work, spent each day with a smile, and was dedicated to his family, his customers, and his employees. Burrus made significant contributions to his community during his life. He will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Private interment will be in Arenzville North Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Arenzville. Memorials are suggested to Arenzville United Methodist Church, Passavant Area Hospital Foundation, or the Independent Professional Seed Association Scholarship.
