A special issue of Genome Biology, published in full today, highlights the best of plant research and includes an editorial written by Dr Mario Caccamo, acting Director of The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC) and Erich Grotewold of The Ohio State University.
There is a revolution in plant genomics underway. An increasing human population has accelerated the pressure to produce more crops in a sustainable way and finding fast solutions to increase food sustainability and security.
“One of the immediate challenges of plant genomics is to mine more efficiently the vast amount of data that are being generated on a daily basis as more and more plant genomes are being sequenced,” says Dr Mario Caccamo. “However, opportunities are emerging that allow scientists to play a key role in securing affordable and nutritious food for an increasing human population.”
This Plant Genomics special issue provides a collection of reviews, opinions and presentations of current scientific work. Genome Biology Volume 14 Issue 6 is available to read here. Read Dr Mario Caccamo’s and Erich Grotewld's editorial, Turning over a new leaf in plant genomics, in full here.
