New AHDB Oilseed Rape Recommended List announced today shows seven NPZ UK varieties including top-of-list Maverick

United Kingdom
December 3, 2024

Seven varieties from NPZ UK are included on the latest AHDB Recommended List (RL) announced today.

“Maverick is the highest yielding variety on the new RL, with Turing, Murray and Vegas also featuring very prominently.

“Crusoe is newly recommended this year for the clubroot resistance category and is a real step change for this market segment for growing on land infected with common strains of clubroot – bringing high seed yield, high resistance to stem canker and TuYV resistance.

“Resort is a high erucic acid rape (HEAR) and is the only UK Described variety (DL) on the list.

“The NPZ UK winter oilseed rape portfolio on the AHDB list brings a strong selection to meet growers’ needs, from the top yielding Maverick plus Turing, Vegas and Murray along with our clubroot resistant varieties and specialist HEAR variety,” comments Chris Guest, Managing Director of breeders NPZ UK.

Top of the Recommended List …

Maverick is top of the new Recommended List. Its excellent yield potential is combined with exceptional RlmS & Rlm7 stem canker resistance (the first of its type to be commercially available with this multiple stacked resistance), TuYV resistance, and outstanding autumn and spring vigour.

·      Exceptional RlmS & Rlm7 stem canker resistance

·      Outstanding LLS resistance

NPZ UK Product Manager Michael Shuldham comments, “Maverick is an exceptional new addition to our portfolio, which will no doubt be very popular with growers for sowing in 2025.  We have already received some excellent feedback on establishment of this year’s crops from across the country. Its broad stem health from the RlmS and Rlm7 phoma resistance genes means that it should be on all grower’s radars for next season’s plantings.”

Turing, Murray and Vegas …

These all maintain their prominent position on this year’s renewed Recommended List – with some excellent features meaning that they are well suited to growers right across the UK.

Turing features excellent high yield potential with consistently high performance and with strong Light leaf spot resistance.

Murray & Vegas both have high gross output and high seed yield combined with exceptional RlmS Phoma resistance as well as good Light leaf spot scores and strong spring vigour, all of which showcases their broad stem health characteristics.

Murray sits in the highest category of ‘moderately resistant’ for the recently-added Verticillium resistance category,

Vegas features the highest resistance score for phoma stem canker on the Recommended List –

Clubroot Resistant …

Crusoe is a new variety for the 2025/26 recommended list, it is a restored hybrid variety for growing on land infected with common strains of clubroot. It has a high gross output, high resistance to stem canker, good resistance to Light leaf spot with good stem stiffness and resistance to lodging. It is TuYV resistant.
