It's clear that
for some European countries the agricultural sector is quite
important in both economic and demographic terms, whereas for
others it is not important at all. That's why reaching a
concensus in the decision process is so difficult.
It is quite
legitimate when certain countries with an insignificant ag
sector don't want to see agricultural concessions extracted at
these negotiations to the detriment of other concessions in
the industrial sector which are of much greater importance to
them. These countries dont' want the negotiations to get stuck
on agricultural items because they don't want to jeopardize
their options in other areas.
It is evident
that there is no complete concensus among the various member
countries of the EU. |
