Pierre Lefebvre - Groupe Limagrain - France

July 2002

When did this merger take place?
It is not really a merger. A merger would have effectively disbanded all existing associations and replaced them with a new entity. Instead, we chose to create a confederation of existing associations, because we were convinced that, in addition to the subject of common interest, every sector of the industry has specific concerns and interests.

The maize, forage, cereals or vegetable sectors each have specific problems which call for different solutions. Therefore, we have maintained the existing, separate entities for the different crops. where sector-specific problems can be addressed.

The Confederation was created as a entity in which representatives from the various associations and their member companies can meet with each other and with the staff of the CSF to address common problems and prepare joint positions. A good example is the considerable work that has been done within the CSF on the subject of GMOs in the context of today's climate, which still remains unfavorable.
