Jack Bodger - Environmental Seed Producers

December 2002

What are some of the key lessons you have learned during your career in the wildflower seed business?
Over the years of conducting field trials of wildflower seed mixtures at our Lompoc facility, I’ve come to appreciate how sensitive plants are to different environmental and climatic conditions. Because of this sensitivity, the same wildflower product planted in different regions will look quite different, but each will be uniquely beautiful.

I’ve also learned that educating the customer is vital to the success of the project. It starts with communicating clearly about what can be expected. Following the time-tested steps for establishing a planting is also necessary for success.

From the beginning ESP has offered horticultural quality wildflower seed. Starting with good quality seed is important because it eliminates one possible cause for poor results.
