Jack Bodger - Environmental Seed Producers

December 2002

What would you like the reader to know about your company?
ESP was founded in 1974 for the purpose of producing seed of native and naturalized herbaceous plants that are suitable for landscaping purposes, especially those with high ornamental and environmental value. We are a sister company to Bodger Seeds Ltd., my family’s 100+ year old garden flower seed producer with world wide production capability. Between the two companies, we offer the broadest assortment of wildflower, garden flower, F1 Hybrid flower seed and herb seed varieties in North America.

One of our primary areas of expertise is seed production. Through our affiliation with Bodger Seeds production department, we have access to 100 years of experience of producing, harvesting and cleaning more than 3000 flower seed varieties. With this experience, ESP has introduced more than 20 wildflower species into cultivation and to the marketplace over the past 28 years. This production expertise and economies of scale allow us to offer high quality seed at competitive prices.

Another of our specialties is creating wildflower and garden flower seed mixtures. Our mixtures are designed by experienced personnel who artfully balance environmental and aesthetic concerns to create the most beautiful and effective results. Using our proprietary computer-modeling program, we precisely balance the ratios of ingredients that have different seed counts. This method prevents small seeded species from becoming too dominant and ensures that large seeded species are adequately represented in each mixture.

We are a full service wildflower seed company and offer more than 30 mixtures for regional and special use, project consultation and custom mixture design services. We furnish complete seed quality information on the individual ingredients of each mix, as well as the ability to quote on a PLS basis.

I also wish to say that at ESP, we enjoy the process of growing and selling wildflower seed. It gives us great satisfaction to offer these living bridges back to nature. For anyone who is interested and is willing to put a little time into it, growing wildflowers provides many rewards. After all, it is the plant kingdom that feeds us, provides fibers that clothe us, beautifies our surroundings, provides shelter for us and even heals us. To make a place in our local environment for a wildflower planting is a way to connect more deeply with the forces of nature that sustain us all.
