Another major factor involved is the level of enlargement. Obviously the most simple process would be a limited weight increase (e.g. 1:1 ).

Due to the slight enlargement more seeds can be handled in one batch and the total coating process can be done in the same machine.

Typically a situation in which the rotary coating technology proves to be most effective. 

It becomes less attractive when during the coating process the volume increase requires to either split the batch or transfer the batch to a larger diameter machine (e.g. full size pill of lettuce, tomato or tobacco). 

Splitting or transfer obviously requires additional equipment and handling which makes it more time consuming.
