Encrustation
and pelleting on a rotary coater, without any doubt, is a very
interesting new technology for seed enlargement. Yet it certainly is
no magic and like any other process has its limitations.
As
discussed above many factors affect the feasibility and the
attractiveness to replace the well established traditional way of
pelleting. For years to come the conventional pelleting process may
well remain the preferred technology to pellet seeds in various
occasions. |
Opportunities
for rotary pelleting however are apparent as well. In general rotary
coating technology will be more evident when enlargement is
restricted (e.g. encrusting), layering and additives more limited,
traditional pelleting more time consuming and skill demanding (e.g.
fine seeds) and final product quality requirements less critical.
The
coming years more experience will be gained and we will learn to
what extend the rotary coating technology will claim a position in
the encrusting and pelleting of seeds. |
