One of
the key factors in any seed pelleting process are the coating
materials used.
Characteristics like density, particle size, flow, absorption
capacity, wettability and adhesion may highly affect the processing
itself and obviously many materials will be totally unsuitable for
application in a rotary coating process. Another restriction is based upon the specific
demands of each seed species and further limits the degrees of
freedom with respect to the choice of materials.
Like in traditional pelleting the
behaviour of coating materials and the potential interaction with
process variables that may alter the final product properties (e.g.
density, hardness, moisture uptake, splitting characteristics) will
have to be defined. Case by case the most suitable
coating formulations will need to be selected or when needed, will
have to be developed. |
