Canada - Syngenta's new Reglone Ion desiccant herbicide delivers increased convenience, uniform drydown

Guelph, Ontario, Canada
June 12, 2014

  • New formulation features a convenient, built-in adjuvant, eliminating mixing
  • Application rate of 0.8 litres/acre

Syngenta Canada Inc. is pleased to introduce Reglone® Ion desiccant herbicide, a new formulation of Reglone, featuring a built-in, non-ionic adjuvant for complete drydown of pulses.

“The new, all-in-one formulation of Reglone Ion offers growers a convenient and effective pre-harvest herbicide option that includes a built-in adjuvant," says Scott Knox, Product Lead – Non-selective, Corn and Bean Herbicides with Syngenta Canada. “Reglone Ion works on contact for faster desiccation, helping growers manage their harvest, while protecting the yield and grade of pulse crops."

Reglone Ion is powered by the active ingredient diquat and offers true desiccation drydown, compared to an application of a systemic herbicide. With the addition of a non-ionic adjuvant to the formulation, Reglone Ion is easier to use, providing quick, uniform drydown of plant material.

A desiccant is recommended for use on plants with indeterminate growth, such as pulses, and should be applied when the crop starts to change colour. With the inclusion of the built-in adjuvant, the application rate of Reglone Ion is 0.8 L/ac, compared to 0.7 L/ac for Reglone 240. For optimal drydown, growers are advised to use the highest recommended water volume to ensure the desiccant is distributed across the entire canopy and down to the plant’s stems.

“There is a lot at stake at harvest. With Reglone Ion, pre-harvest desiccation is easier and more convenient than ever," concluded Knox.
