Members of the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative can now start planning for 2013 with three Hilleshög brand varieties from Syngenta - Disease tolerance and sugar performance among top traits

Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA
January 25, 2013

Members of the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative can now start planning for 2013 with three Hilleshög® brand varieties from Syngenta. The Minnesota-based cooperative has released its approved variety list which includes Hilleshög brand varieties that feature robust disease packages, strong emergence and improved sugar quality.

Drawn from a genetic portfolio spanning more than 100 years, the approved Hilleshög varieties are specifically tailored to meet the needs of Southern Minnesota growers and reflect the commitment of Syngenta providing top performing products to the sugarbeet market.

“In the past year, we have greatly expanded our breeding capacity in the U.S. The more volume our breeders begin with, the more winners come out of the pipeline.” explained Rebecca Larson, head of sugarbeet product evaluation at Syngenta. “We have the best Rhizoctonia tolerance globally and the most extensive disease testing of any sugarbeet seed company in the U.S.”

The three Hilleshög brand varieties approved by the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative for 2013 feature herbicide tolerance packages and include:

  • 4017RR: Excellent sugar quality, moderate Aphanomyces tolerance, high-sugar variety
  • 4063RR: Excellent Cercospora tolerance, high Rhizoctonia tolerance, good Aphanomyces tolerance, strong field emergence
  • 9093RR: High performing with exceptional emergence, excellent Rhizoctonia tolerance

“9093RR is our number-one variety for emergence in commercial trials and delivers Rhizoctonia and Aphanomyces tolerance. Another great option, 4063RR, shows strong field emergence and comes equipped with a stacked disease package while still producing high yields,” said Tyler Ring, Product Manager, Diversified Field Crops at Syngenta.

Adding CruiserMaxx® Sugarbeets insecticide/fungicide seed treatment combination of separately registered products to Hilleshög brand sugarbeet seeds will provide growers with superior early-season protection against both insects and diseases like Rhizoctonia and Pythium. CruiserMaxx Sugarbeets seed treatment complements breeding efforts at Syngenta and enhances vigor, improves stand establishment and increases yield potential by protecting the sugarbeet plant as the seed germinates and develops.
