With 24-185 RZ Rijk Zwaan introduces the first cucumber variety with high resistance (HR) to mosaic virus. Rijk Zwaan varieties with this trait are recognisable by the BonDefense logo, developed by the company.
In varieties with high resistance to mosaic virus (CGMMV*), the plants continue to grow normally when infected with this virus. No or hardly any virus symptoms occur either in the plants or on the cucumbers, so that both quality and production remain good. The virus also multiplies less quickly in the plant, so that spreading from plant to plant slows down considerably. Rijk Zwaan expects to launch more varieties with resistance to mosaic virus soon. They may be recognised by the BonDefense logo.
24-185 RZ is suitable for summer and autumn cultivation and apart from having high resistance to mosaic virus it also has intermediate resistance (IR) to mildew.

Rijk Zwaan brengt komkommerras met resistentie tegen bontvirus
Met 24-185 RZ introduceert Rijk Zwaan het eerste komkommerras met een HR-resistentie tegen bontvirus. Rassen van Rijk Zwaan met deze eigenschap zijn herkenbaar aan het door het bedrijf ontwikkelde BonDefense-logo.
Bij rassen met een HR-resistentie tegen bontvirus (CGMMV*) blijft de plant na een aantasting met dit virus normaal doorgroeien. Er ontstaan geen of nauwelijks virussymptomen in de plant en op de vruchten, waardoor kwaliteit en productie op een goed niveau blijven. Ook de vermenigvuldiging van het virus in de plant gaat minder snel, waardoor de verspreiding van plant naar plant aanzienlijk vertraagt. Rijk Zwaan verwacht snel meer rassen met resistentie tegen bontvirus op de markt te brengen. Deze zullen te herkennen zijn aan het BonDefense-logo.
24-185 RZ is geschikt voor de zomer- en herfstteelt en heeft naast de HR-resistentie tegen bontvirus ook een IR-resistentie tegen meeldauw.
