A recent study reports the emergence of _Fusarium incarnatum_ and _Fusarium avenaceum_ affecting tomato, aubergine and capsicum in the Kashmir Valley [see link below]. This is the 1st formal recognition of these species as wilt pathogens for these crops within India, significantly raising alarm for local agriculture.
Previous studies indicated widespread susceptibility of solanaceous crops to various infections, primarily by _Fusarium pallidoroseum_, leading to devastating yield losses ranging from 45 to 60%. Given the importance of these crops, safeguarding them from such threats is considered urgent.

[Fungi currently or previously included in the genus _Fusarium_ or respective species complexes cause serious diseases in a wide range of crops. Current names of the fungi mentioned above are _F. incarnatum_, _F. pallidoroseum_ and _Gibberella avenacea_, one of the fungi associated with fungal blights of cereals.
The pathogens are generally soil borne and long lived; spores can also be spread with plant material, water, air currents and by mechanical means. Disease management of soil borne pathogens is difficult and usually requires an integrated approach, including phytosanitation, exclusion and resistant or tolerant crop varieties, if available. Antagonistic fungi in the genus _Trichoderma_ have been shown to be effective as biocontrol organisms to suppress various fungal pathogens, including _Fusarium_ species.
