“Rijk Zwaan creates the conditions to connect us to the world"

July 24, 2024

At Vietnam’s Mai Khoi Farm, they care about a healthy life for people. “We grow a range of peppers because of their high quality and health benefits. The cooperation with Rijk Zwaan in promoting products providing technical support and training, helps us meet international standards,” says CEO Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. Visiting the Rijk Zwaan booth at Asia Fruit Logistica is a way for Mai Khoi Farm to connect to the world.

Strong support and visits

At the end of 2014, Ngan and her husband Nguyen Van Minh Tu left the Vietnamese city of Ho Chi Minh to start Mai Khoi Farm in Da Lat as CEO and chairman, respectively. They initially grew a variety of flowers and vegetables before switching to peppers in 2019. “Thanks to Rijk Zwaan’s strong support and farm visits, we learned how to grow peppers on substrate. With the guidance of Bio Pro, we have been using beneficial insects since 2022. That was the next big step to upgrade our product quality and quantity,” comments Ngan.

Choosing yield, easiness and quality

Currently, Mai Khoi Farmgrows red, yellow and green sweet peppers, tricolour baby peppers, and Sweet Palermo® in four colours on 8.2 hectares. Ngan explains: “Peppers are the most economically efficient crop, although the initial investment costs are high. We chose to grow Rijk Zwaan varieties like Kpop RZ and Palermo Radius RZ because they have a high yield, are easy to grow and have a good product quality. Moreover, Rijk Zwaan’s crop experts, like Hong Tran, offer us strong technical support. We are really grateful for that. They have always been there for us, right from the very early days."

Sweet Palermo is a big success

The four colours of Sweet Palermo are among their top sellers, according to Ngan. “We first tried to sell this new product on the market in 2019, but it was too early. We introduced it again in 2021. Since then, it has been a big success. Customers give excellent feedback on the product quality of Sweet Palermo, plus these sweet pointed peppers are easy to eat and offer versatility in use. Moreover, they are rich in nutrients like vitamin C and folate, and they increase resilience. My husband and I eat Sweet Palermo every day. We feel like our health has improved significantly,” she says.

Connect and learn at Asia Fruit Logistica

Mai Khoi Farm is not only present at Asia Fruit Logistica as a visitor, but is also participating in the pepper seminar organised on the 3th of September. “We want to show the world that our Vietnamese company can produce high-quality agricultural products that meet international standards. Additionally, Asia Fruit Logistica is a great opportunity for us to connect with and learn from other professional companies in the agricultural sector. We will visit the Rijk Zwaan booth, of course. The company creates the conditions to connect us to the world.”
