The final report from last October’s three-day International Conference on Global Crop Losses Caused by Diseases, Pests and Weeds is now available. The event was organised by INRA, through its SMaCH (Sustainable Management of Crop Health) and GloFoodS (Transitions to Global Food Security) metaprogrammes, and in partnership with CIRAD and ISPP (International Society of Plant Pathology).

The report’s executive summary includes the following:

  • Crop loss assessment and modelling addresses legitimate and important issues
  • There are several facets to crop losses caused by crop diseases, pests, and weeds
  • There are methods to quantify crop losses, especially yield losses
  • Process?based modelling is a valid and valuable approach to yield loss analysis
  • Crop loss information as part of the global data revolution
  • Looking forward: mapping global pest and disease yield losses and crop loss data ontologies

Keynote presentations and extended abstracts for the event, which also enjoyed the support of the AGMiP and MacSur international networks and involved some 80 participants from 20 countries, are also available online.
