The Indiana Crop Improvement Association is delighted to welcome John Zheng as Chief Science Officer. This newly created position is the first of its kind in ICIA’s 120-year history tasked to provide overall scientific leadership and propel the innovation culture at ICIA. John will be the primary driving force behind Strategy Goal #1: Improve Crop Through Science, expanding our attention at the leading edge of technologies to turn ideas into new services for our members.

Growing up in a small farming village in Southern China, John’s career path has never been too far away from his roots. After completing his undergraduate degree in plant science at Xiamen University, he moved to the US for graduate studies in the same field and earned his MS and PhD at the University of Iowa. He brings more than 20 years of professional experience having worked at DuPont Pioneer, Dow AgroSciences and later the merged company Corteva, where he successfully led numerous cross-functional R&D projects and served in different leadership roles. He is an expert in molecular genetics, breeding technologies, gene and trait discovery, and intellectual property (IP). He has also demonstrated excellent abilities to take research discoveries to product development and commercialization. John holds 22 patents, 8 peer-reviewed publications and a Dow Technology Center Award.

Most recently, John was an adjunct professor at the Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis and an independent consultant in agricultural technology, investment, and IP.

John lives in Carmel with his wife Amy and daughter Vivian (when she is on break from college). For fun, he likes to run, watch stand-up comedies and hike with his family and their dog Marco.

Since August, John has been a consultant to ICIA helping pursue intellectual property protection in our Genetics Program. We are excited that John will join us in-house beginning Monday, January 4th. Please help me congratulate John and welcome him to ICIA!

ICIA is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization.  We are an unbiased third party source for agriculture quality assurance. For 120 years, we have built a strong foundation by providing a sound scientific approach to testing. From innovative genetics to the latest in molecular technology, we have an uncompromising commitment to method validation and statistical integrity. Call today at 866.899.2518 or visit us online at www.indianacrop.org for more information.
