We are looking for a Manager of North America Soybean Breeding to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Research Triangle Park, NC.

As the Manager of North America Soybean Breeding at BASF you will direct Soybean breeding teams across North America to ensure development of superior germplasm, varieties, and a sustainable commercial product pipeline as defined by the strategic plan, to continue market share growth, and to lead implementation of new breeding innovations to support long-term competitiveness.
You will lead the implementation of R&D Innovation strategy, such as Predictive Breeding to support the breeding processes, evaluation and decision making for commercial variety development for the customer and marketplace in support of the growth of BASF cotton crop business.
You will lead, inspire, and develop high-performing breeding team and promote collaboration of the team across R&D and Business stakeholders.

As a North America Soybean Breeding Manager, you create chemistry by...

  • Being responsible to drive the development and realization of the regional soybean strategy and to the overall implementation of this strategy as it relates to breeding, trait development, and new product pipeline.  
  • Being responsible for technical aspects of soybean breeding needed for realizing of the regional strategic plan. Coordinating the breeding programs in terms of goals, germplasm development, project sharing, and technical standardization.
  • Building and maintaining trust, inspire, motivate, and develop high-performing teams. Ensuring alignment with R&D and Business stakeholders, promoting collaboration across key functions.
  • Establishing and maintaining solid networks with regional business partners, and to the agronomic community to capture information of relevant trends influencing the business.  Partnering across BASF R&D organizations to support the advancement for crop protection, digital, and seed products.

If you have...

  • Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, plant science, agronomy, agriculture, or Genetics with 10 + years industry experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial breeding programs, pipeline, and breeding techniques. Knowledge of plant biotechnology and analytical methods.
  • Capability to develop new concepts and applications.  Willing to plan and present future needs to Business stakeholders and Leadership through critical and strategic thinking.    
  • Excellent Interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills are extremely important for interfacing with regional BASF business units, internal and external Research Sector personnel.
  • Must have continual interaction and strong leadership with several diverse project and functional teams, both regionally and globally.
  • Experience creating and leading direct staff and agile teams is a must. Training and experience in effectively leading teams, including hiring, staff coaching, and developing global teams.
  • Cross functional and collaborative mindset; stakeholder alignment & management
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, domestically and internationally.
