Research Associate, Plant Molecular Biology and Physiology

Location: Davis, California, USA

About Origin Prime
Origin Prime is focused on developing a next generation approach to improve crops for ensuring global food security. We utilize state of the art technology for gene discovery and are creating new products based on non-GM approaches.

Position Summary
We are looking for a Research Associate, Plant Molecular Biologist to support – plant molecular biology and plant physiology experiments. Our ideal candidate is excited about working with plants, has knowledge of plant biology, and experience with basic plant molecular biology techniques. The candidate will work under the supervision of the plant physiology lead but must be self-motivated. The candidate must be comfortable working in greenhouse and field conditions. Legal authorization to work in the United States is required.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out plant phenotyping experiments. This includes fertilizer solution preparation, batch soil mixing, seed disinfection, seed imbibing/priming, seed planting and watering in controlled growth facilities.
  • Carry out plant molecular biology experiments. This includes plant sampling, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR reactions and electrophoresis gels.
  • Establish and maintain a detailed record of information. This includes, but is not limited to, seed and plant identity via stake and labeling methods.
  •  Utilize database to maintain inventory of research plants, phenotyping and genotyping data.
  • Perform general laboratory duties such as media and reagent preparation.
  •  Maintain a detailed online lab notebook.
  • Write and present status reports at weekly meetings
  • May be asked to work flexible hours

Education and Experience Required

  • B.Sc. in plant science, biology or a related field.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques
  • 2+ years of experience with plant phenotyping experiments
  • Familiarity with MS Office software and working with databases (Benchling)
  • Strong organizational skills

Job Type: Full time
Pay: $40-$60K, depending on prior experience
