Production and Certification Product Manager

Location: Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful applicant will manage the introduction and development of LCS Wheat and Barley varieties with regard to seed production, certification, Plant Variety Protection, inventory planning, and quality assurance.

The Product Development Manager will also contribute to the development of sales volume targets and profit margins on seed sales activity in conjunction with the COO, Regional Sales Managers and Marketing Manager.

The position currently has two direct reports, one responsible for purity and maintenance breeding / production of Breeders Seed; the second responsible for design and implementation of quality assurance procedures throughout the production and sales process.

In addition to the supervision of these two positions, the Product Development Manager will be responsible for:

  • Planning annual foundation seed production needs in conjunction with sales managers, COO and marketing manager
  • Contracting foundation seed production acres,
  • Managing relationships with contract producers,
  • Determining seed volumes to be conditioned and made ready for sale,
  • Inventory monitoring and control, including non-seed disposals
  • Plant Variety Protection applications, in cooperation with breeders who provide technical dossiers
  • Certification of contract production plus any additional certification issues raised by LCS distributors

Education and experience required:  B.S. degree in an Agricultural discipline; minimum of 5 years experience in seed production, plant breeding or field crop production.
