R&D Specialist III - Assistant Cotton Breeder

Location: Idalou, Texas, USA

Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, as a Research & Development Specialist III – Assistant Cotton Breeder, are to:

  • Assist in coordination, and execution of all agronomic aspects of the breeding program, at both on-site and off-site locations, including seed processing, packaging, and field maintenance (planting, thinning, crossing, cultivation, fertility, pest management, irrigation, and harvest);
  • Assist in data management for field maps, field books, note criteria, performance test results, breeder line development and selection, germplasm collection, evaluation, maintenance and development;
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and supervise seasonal and contract staff;
  • Ensure compliance with all existing Quality, Health, Safety and Environment standards in the area of responsibility;
  • Interface with local cotton breeding team, local testing team and other Bayer CropScience Cotton Breeders.
  • Interact as needed with Stewardship, Regulatory Compliance, QHSE, Cotton QC Manager, all Bayer affiliated breeding staff, and Bayer affiliated consultants and co-operators.

  • PhD with 0 years relevant experience, MS with minimum of 3 years relevant experience, BS with minimum of 5 years relevant experience;
  • Knowledge of the entire system of variety development from hybridization to breeder seed is essential;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; • Working knowledge of MS Office software;
  • Strong background in cotton breeding, statistical design and analysis, laboratory seed processing techniques, and cotton nursery field management.
