Research Farm Manager & Assistant Breeder
Location: Twin Falls, Idaho, USA Responsibilities:
- This position is responsible for managing a vine crop research farm.
- The person is responsible for all aspects of organizing the fertility, tillage, planting, weed control, general farm maintenance & harvest of research and experimental trial plots for seed saving and lab analysis.
- The person is also responsible for equipment maintenance in cooperation with the chief breeder.
- In addition this position will be responsible to plant various research plots with growers.
- Manage fertility & irrigation for watermelon & squash production both in the nursery and the field.
- Organize planting on the farm and plant outside research plots.
- Supervise the seed extraction and harvest / cleaning of semi commercial seed production.
- Calibrate sprayer and co-ordinate all pesticide applications of plots.
- Maintain station research equipment.
- Organize & hire seasonal labor as needed.
- Reports to the chief breeder in charged.
Qualifications:
- Candidate should have a B.S. in Agronomy or Agricultural research with some experience in conducting plot trials.
- Person must have good mechanical knowledge, excellent planning and organization skills.
- Strong communication skills required.
- Working knowledge of MS Office and common PC based software as well as some knowledge in international business operation.
- Must have valid USA driver’s license.
- A current Idaho pesticide applicator’s license if possible or able to request.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work all hours to get the job done.
- Ability to lift at least 50lbs.
