Tomato Breeder

Location: San Juan Bautista, California, USA

What will you do?

As a Breeder you are responsible for developing competitive tomato varieties, in line with Enza Zaden's long-term vision. Responsibilities include.

  • Planning and preparation of all activities of a breeding project under the supervision of the Sr. Breeder.
  • Execution of the activities of a breeding project: Making the right plant and line selections on critical moments in the breeding cycle.
  • Maintenance of detailed records throughout the breeding cycles.
  • Decision-making to advance material to trial productions and screening trials.
  • Implementation of developed technology and traits in the breeding program.
  • Create, update, and curate data in various breeding software applications.
  • Other duties 

Your power

You are an enthusiastic, creative, and global thinking entrepreneur with a long-term vision on breeding. You are on top of the latest market developments and able to translate these to your breeding program, using the latest breeding technologies. In this process, you can connect and collaborate effectively with internal and external parties. You have excellent analytical and communication skills.

In short,

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is required, master’s degree in plant breeding is a plus.  
  • 3+ years of experience in plant breeding and plant genetics preferred. Graduate program experience is acceptable.
  • Thorough knowledge of plant breeding, modern methods of breeding and phytopathology.
  • Is well acquainted with various cultivation techniques and has sufficient market knowledge.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • A thorough understanding of English, both verbal and written is required. 
  • The ability to speak and understand some Spanish is highly desired.   
  • Responsible for planning and execution of own projects.
  • Travel will be required, 25% (International/ Domestic).
  • You can work under intense weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Compensation & Benefits:

The following information is provided in good faith as a general description of the pay range and benefits for the position posted.  The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate is dependent upon experience, skills, education, work location, and other objective job-related factors.

Salary Pay Range estimated $73,799 - $89,000.
