Where the Chemistry Happens
As a Sr. Specialist Cell Biology, you will be responsible for the effective implementation of Cell Biology protocols for our Vegetable Seeds business at our Davis, CA site. You will also contribute to developing, optimizing, and implementing new technologies, techniques, and protocols.
As a Sr. Specialist Cell Biology, you create chemistry by…
- Coordinating with breeding, operations and research teams to ensure the effective delivery of Cell Biology “products” (e.g., doubled haploids, somatic embryos, micropropagation)
- Optimizing and executing new technologies and protocols in a defined project to create added value for the departments of Research and Development (R&D), Operations, and Marketing and Sales
- Assisting Cell Biology managers in developing project plans (including milestone definition, scheduling and resource requirements)
- Ensuring execution of Cell Biology protocols and working practices conform to global Health, Safety, and Environmental; Hygiene and Stewardship policies; and local laws and regulations
- Assisting with budget and capacity planning and scheduling and communication of state of operations relative to agreed KPIs
- Communicating effectively with other members of project teams and the R&D community
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Your formula for success…
- BSc or MSc in plant biology, biotechnology or a related field
- BSc with 4+ years of experience or MSc with 1+ years of experience with plant tissue culture in an academic or industry lab
- Sound understanding of and experience with cell biology practices and protocols
- Hands on experience in areas such as double haploid production, micropropagation, cryopreservation and somatic embryogenesis.
- Experience working with vegetable crops such as watermelon, melon, onion and tomato in laboratory, greenhouse and field settings.
- Experience in experimental design, protocol development and technology transfer

BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive base pay range for this role is $74,720 - $102,740. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
