Where the Chemistry Happens

The Vegetable Seeds Research & Development (R&D) Farm Organization develops and maintains the global R&D Farm sites, providing diverse growing environments from open fields to high-tech greenhouses, that allow the R&D Breeding and Research units to realize their strategic objectives cost-effectively and support the operational needs of Operations and Marketing & Sales, where applicable.

Located in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon, Brooks Farm Foreman Brooks is responsible to manage crop growing, performing agronomical operations and all related activities supporting R&D and Production functions located at site and other functions where applicable as required, with adequate competent manpower resources and readily available pool of seasonal/contracted labor. 

Being part of the Brooks Farm Team, will contribute to developing and implementing farm site and technology innovation strategy (e.g., digitalization) that anticipates the evolving needs of the Vegetable Seeds R&D function. This position interacts with multiple departments within the company and has unlimited growth potential with development personally and professionally.

As a Foreman Farm, you create chemistry by…

  • Coordinating all aspects in the execution of the crop management
  • Establishing a strong constructive relationship with internal clients through regular discussions and field visits
  • Ensuring that Farm protocols and work practices at site conform to global Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE), Responsible Care (RC) implementation standards, Hygiene and Stewardship policies and local laws and regulations
  • Managing the maintenance and acquisition of resources related to all Farm Equipment and Supplies
  • Participating in the planning and monitoring of Farm OpEx budget.
Qualifications

BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Your formula for success…

  • High School diploma with minimum 7 years of relevant experience related to Agriculture Crop Growing operations OR Bachelor’s degree with minimum 3 years of relevant experience related to Agriculture Crop Growing operations

Experience

  • Experience in coordinating a team, farm planning and project oversight 
  • Fluent in English, required, fundamental Spanish language skills preferred
  • Relevant understanding of HSE principles, oversight, and regulations
  • Detail orientated, comfortable communicating and performing in a diverse team
  • Innovative mind set able to match company strategy
  • Builds and enhances trust as a collaborator and partner

Knowledge/Skills 

  • Proven communicator with solution-oriented approach
  • Strong digital/technical skills including Microsoft Suite
  • Knowledge on farm equipment operation and maintenance
  • Knowledge on crop protection (e.g. pest control) measures and application
  • Knowledge on field irrigation and plant nutrition principles
  • Basic knowledge of seed production preferred
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated knowledge on crop growing concepts
  • Demonstrated knowledge on farm safety principles
