POSITION SUMMARY

To support and assist the Breeding team with summer pollinating and planting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES

• The position requires attention to detail while maintaining nurseries and trials managed by station personnel.
• Plot maintenance activities including: thinning, weeding, plant training, tagging
• Sweet corn pollination
• Greenhouse maintenance tasks –cleanup
• Data Entry of field trial results
• Transplanting and inoculations of cucurbit trials
• Operation of research equipment including but not limited to: bean grader, corn cutter
• Dry seed collection, separation, sorting, counting, treating, and packaging
• Valid driver's license required.

Job requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• 1 year related experience desired
• Previous experience in corn pollination desirable
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good and consistent observation skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Takes direction well and works great in a team environment

• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• This position will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work long days in outside environment. Conditions can include high heat, insects, cold, and various environmental issues. The employee will need to walk on uneven ground (production fields), work near equipment or machinery, and may be exposed to vibration or constant movement. The noise levels can be high during certain planting and harvest events.
• Employee is required to wear working boots that will stand mud, water and dirt. Light weight, long sleeves, and pants are suggested for the high heat, as well as a hat. Required PPE will be provided by HM Clause.
