POSITION SUMMARY
As an integral part of the global Pepper breeding team, with regional reporting to the regional Breeder Director, the Genetic Application Lead plays a critical role in implementing new technology, trait discovery research and germplasm management efforts across our Pepper breeding programs. This breeding position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate across our Discovery research programs and Commercial breeding programs to accelerate the deployment of novel traits, new breeding tools and accelerate genetic gain to develop innovate vegetable products. (While primary crop responsibility will support global pepper efforts, there is opportunity to also provide some regional support of other Solanaceae (tomato) breeding programs.)
Job description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with plant breeders, pre-breeders, scientists and IT developers across HM.Clause and Limagrain Vegetable Seeds (LVS)
- Facilitate interactions between pre-breeders/discovery teams/public research and commercial breeding teams to develop innovative tools and products
- Main point of contact for LVS pre-breeders or other project leaders to deliver innovative traits or technology into HM.Clause breeding programs, in assigned crops
- Develop crop and trait expertise to represent project/portfolio prioritization across the R&D organization and drive trait strategy for effective deployment across relevant breeding programs and markets
- Support application of genetic/genomic information and data analytics to plant breeding programs, including predictive breeding and genomic selection efforts
- Contribution to germplasm strategy, including primary contact for coordination of marker assisted backcrossing efforts in assigned crop species
- Synthetize genetic information for novel traits and conduct QTL validation experiments to enable successful deployment in relevant germplasm across breeding programs
- Contribute to the selection, evaluation and deployment of new technologies in support of breeding, including new phenotyping/imaging technologies
- Lead pilot breeding efforts for new germplasm/markets, or R&D projects for traits/initiatives, if requested. (future interest in contributing as a breeder is a plus)
Profile
- Master's Degree required, PhD preferred.
