Job description
Assist Molecular Genetics Data Analysts and Molecular Genetics Project Leaders in the development, deployment and validation of trait linked markers in multiple crop species. Compile and format genotypic and phenotypic datasets to ensure their compatibility with HMC's proprietary analytical pipelines. Evaluate sequence data to explore and categorize interesting genomic variants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Contribute to trait elucidation and marker development by exploiting sequencing and high density genotyping data for genetic mapping, QTL discovery, LD mapping and trait associations, candidate gene searches and genomic data exploitation pertaining to trait marker development.
- Set up and exploit genetic diversity analysis to identify specific haplotypes and breeding signatures
- Perform MABC data analysis and plant selection for the breeding programs
- Interact with all team functions to use properly and integrate the current and new informatics tools and process. Seek out continual improvement and professional development in the area of Statistics and Bioinformatics through company provided help documentation, internal and external web-based training modules, interaction with peers and external training opportunities.
Profile
Education and/or Experience Desired:
- MS or equivalent education and experience, PhD preferred, in Plant Genetics, Bioanalysis or Statistics, with 3-5 years professional experience involving analysis of large datasets and bioinformatics.
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency in analyzing large genetic and genomic datasets
- Strong background in statistics and demonstrated facility with the use of statistical tools such as R, JMP, Spotfire, REML, SAS etc.
- Experience in experimental design and project management targeting trait-linked marker development, deployment and validation through QTL mapping, GWAS, fine mapping and functional genomics methods.
