Position Summary
Are you interested in working in a startup environment? Origin Prime is looking for a Research Associate, Plant Transformation to support our activities in plant tissue culture, plant transformation, molecular biology and lab management. Our ideal candidate is excited about working with plants. Experience with plants or lab management is a huge plus but there is opportunity to learn and grow with the company. The candidate will be mentored and supervised by the plant tissue culture lead.

Key responsibilities

• Initiates plant tissue culture growth projects to include media preparation, tissue disinfecting, establish sterile explants and routine and regular sub culturing.
• Initiates plant growth/care projects to include fertilizer solution preparation, batch soil mixing, seed disinfecting, seed imbibing/priming, seed planting and watering.
• Establishes and maintains identity of shoots, callus, seeds, plants, flats and genotype samples via stake and sticker methods.
• Conducts sub-culturing and transplanting activities
• Utilize various databases to maintain inventory of research plants, seeds and crosses including pedigree and crossing information.
• Perform general laboratory duties such as preparing media and reagents.
• Maintain, organize, receive and coordinate purchases of laboratory supplies.
• Write periodic reports to company colleagues.

Education and Experience
Required

• B.A or B.S in biology or a related field.
• 1+ years of hands-on experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques
• Experience in performing general laboratory duties such as preparing media, buffers, etc.
• Familiarity with MS Office software
• Strong organizational skills
• Self motivated
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred experience:

• Lab management
• Plant tissue culture and transformation
