We are seeking a professional like you to provide the company with new varieties in their target market segments by searching for the appropriate genetic resources and implementing the best technologies and methods available.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Ensure constant flow of commercially successful varieties that meets company Crop Strategy and consumer needs, by applying proven breeding methodologies in combination with new technologies
- Define the breeding strategy and develop a genetic improvement program to create new and original varieties in line with company business objectives and market needs.
- Develop and maintain a well-planned breeding program that is balanced and provides commercial products for key markets.
- Formulate, design and implement specific breeding targets for each breeding segment based on Crop Strategy. Identify promising results from different fields of research and integrate them in the breeding program.
- Partner with Global and Regional Product Specialist to Translate Crop Strategies and tactics into new commercial products in order to gain Market Share and Leadership in Americas.
- Prepare, implement and monitor crop budgets and operational plans for the breeding program.
- Manage, support and direct the breeding team and breeding related activities in line with the breeding plan, guidelines and procedures and corporate values and vision.
- Manage, direct, and coordinate after approval of the Head of Breeding and in cooperation with HR, the personnel within the breeding team located on the site and on external sites, including appraisal, training and development and career planning by using HR instruments, guidelines, procedures and advise in order to select and maintain competent employees and ensure an efficient and effective functioning breeding team.
- Design and implement trialing plans for key markets.
- Stay current with technology developments in pertinent sciences and introduces innovation to breeding program where appropriate; and monitor the position of competitor's products.
- Develop awareness of market context and aligns program direction strategic and technical accordingly.
- Coordinate the implementation of programs through a network of breeding stations and screening sites and leverage current research technologies.
- Manage and Maximize the use of all resources allocated to the breeding program(s): human, technical, budget/financial
- Strategically collaborate with key partners, internal and external.
- Significant travel within the United States, as well as abroad.
- Provide quality leadership for internal and external customers in all assigned tasks, while upholding values at all times: inclusive of constructive problem solving, facilitating creative improvements, and inspiring others
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Qualifications
- M.Sc. (5 years) or PhD (>2 year) in plant breeding, genetics , agronomy, horticulture or related field
- 5+ years (MSc) or 2 year (PhD) of relevant work experience in a commercial breeding program.
- Must be proficient in English; proficiency in Spanish a plus.
- In depth working knowledge of breeding methods, horticulture, agronomy, genetics, pathology, statistics, physiology and molecular genetics
- Proficiency in quantitative genetics, data management and statistical analysis, experimental design
- Demonstrated success in the application of genomics or molecular markers to operational breeding programs
- Strong grasp of classical genetics and applied field research

- Willingness to work as a team member
- Desire to remain updated with new agricultural trends and technology
- Self-motivation, willingness to learn and good work ethic
- Ability to work in field under varying conditions & ability to walk several miles per day
- Desire to serve growers and others involved in the agriculture industry
- Organization and planning
- Proficient computer skills - Microsoft Office software, email, internet, database management
- Work independently, as well, in cross divisional Crop Teams
- Proven ability to effectively communicate verbal & written skills
