Seed coating
Pesticides and fungicides have been
around for a long time. By incorporating
these products in a thin film around the
seeds, their overall performance can be
greatly improved and the amounts of
these products needed for efficacy
reduced. This has direct impact on the
cost effectiveness, the protection and
the final yield on the field. The
advantage to the environment is huge
compared to traditional field
applications; the chemical load of these
chemicals on the environment has been
reduced to almost nothing.
Additionally, some of these products are
toxic to humans, and inserting them into
a protective layer improves working
conditions for the people who
handle the seed daily, in addition to
keeping the chemical from rubbing off
too easily. Also, adding color provides
a powerful inspection tool for the seed
lot, and can provide additional visual
protection against human or animal
consumption of seed that has been
treated. These factors have
significantly influenced the use of
coating technologies. Film coating
treatments are rapidly replacing
traditional dusting and slurry
treatments.
ASTEC can provide a basic coating
without coloring, which merely attaches
products to the seed. Besides the basic
coat, ASTEC can offer a 50% (plus) and a
100% (optimum) film coating in various
colors.
ASTEC also offers customized coating
systems, tools, materials, know-how and
training to interested vegetable and
agricultural seed companies.
