Seed industry urged to register now for ISF Congress 2011

February 2, 2011

This year’s ISF World Seed Congress in Belfast from 30 May to 1 June is a must for anyone involved in the global seed industry. With record numbers of delegates already registered, event organisers are urging members of the seed trade to register now at www.worldseed2011.com to secure their place.

“This year’s ISF World Seed Congress looks set to break records,” said John Gilbert, chair of the organising committee. “The number of delegates registered at this stage is around 50% higher than the past three years. Discounted hotel rooms allocated to the Congress are selling fast and several hotels are already completely full.”

“There has never been a more exciting time to be in the seeds industry. Many parts of the world have always known that food cannot be taken for granted. Surging commodity prices are indicative of an overdue worldwide recognition of this fact. ‘Sustainable intensification’ of agriculture is required to address the challenges of global food security and climate change. This will depend on improved varieties of seeds and agronomy.

“The Congress agenda in Belfast will cover key issues for the further development of the international seeds industry. As ever, there will be space for business, socialising and networking. Belfast is a small city with a big friendly heart. It has a well-deserved reputation for hospitality, with superb meeting facilities, excellent hotel accommodation, restaurants and bars. It also has a fascinating history and tradition, for example the conference takes place on the 100th anniversary of the launching of the Titanic in Belfast.”

“Belfast is a wonderful location and the ISF World Seed Congress is a unique opportunity to access the entire world’s seed industry, not just part of it. If you’re not already signed up register now!” said Mr Gilbert.
