Learn about forage technology at Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Week

You won’t have to “forage” for information on forage and grazing technology. The Michigan Forage Council and Michigan Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative are co-hosting a conference during Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Week where you can learn all about the latest techniques.

ANR Week, scheduled from March 4 to 12, is an annual event that hosts a wide variety of meetings, workshops and conferences in areas such as agriculture, horticulture and natural resources hosted by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources on theMichigan State University (MSU) campus.

This conference takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 10, and topics will include:

  • Using Roundup for Weed Control in a Six-Year-Old Stand Glyphosate-Resistant Alfalfa: Results of a Long-Term Study. Dr. Wes Everman, Extension and Research Weed Agronomist, Michigan State University
  • Should You Apply Nitrogen on Alfalfa Grass Mixes for Better Production? Devesh Singh, Research Agronomist, Barenbrug USA
  • Feeding Grass to Dairy Cattle (Could a Little Grass in Your Ration Be a Good Thing?) Dr. David Combs, Extension Dairy Nutritionist, University of Wisconsin
  • What Grasses Are Best to Grow With Alfalfa for Hay or Haylage? Devesh Singh, Research Agronomist, Barenbrug USA
  • Alfalfa/Grass Mixtures for Increased Winter Survival in Lapeer County – Results and Discussions. Phil Kaatz, Extension Forage Specialist, Michigan State University
  • Using Potassium on Alfalfa for Best Returns for Your Money. Dr. Carrie Laboski, Extension Soil Fertility/Nutrient Management Agronomist, University of Wisconsin
  • Using Biosolids, Fly Ash and Compost on Hay Land for Plant Nutrients. Dianna Seifert, St. Clair, Mich., and a Panel of Michigan Producers including Mr. Gary Carmichael, Utilizing Non-Conventional Nutrients Sources for Forage Land

  • Using Crop Residues for Keeping Feed Costs Down for Beef Herds. Jerry Lindquist, Extension Grazing Specialist, Michigan State University
  • What Is New in Pasture Grasses? Devesh Singh, Research Agronomist, Barenbrug USA
  • What Is the Potential of Grass-Fed Beef and Marketing Locally? Dr. Jason Rowntree, Extension Beef Specialist, Michigan State University
