Sakata has established itself as the industry leader in hybrid radish development. By focusing our breeding effort on characteristics like dark red color, consistent round shape,

resistance to interior pith, sweet mild flavor, strong tops, disease resistance, and geographic adaptability, we are providing the highest quality varieties for both the bunching and cello trade.

Although our research and sales staff run extensive internal radish trials, we do not rely on this information alone. We also participate in many university trials. In a recent Ohio State University muck trial measuring marketable yield, Sakata varieties were ranked 1, 2 and 3 out of 28 varieties submitted for testing.

Sakata’s first hybrid introductions were Crunchy Red and Cherriette. These two quickly established themselves as grower and retailer favorites in the major production areas from Mexico to coastal California to Canada and parts in between.

Sakata’s latest breakthrough hybrid is Crunchy Royale (SRA 4504).

This variety matures in approximately 25 days and offers a uniform round globe shape, good size, color retention, 4" top height, and high pack out rate.

It offers excellent quality and uniformity in all production areas, for spring or fall harvest.

Sales of Crunchy Royale have increased dramatically since it was first offered on a commercial basis and we expect this trend to continue.
