SOLID MATRIX PRIMING

Kamterter is the developer of the patented Solid Matrix Priming (SMP®) process. With the SMP® method, water uptake is controlled by suspending seed in a defined medium (or matrix) of solids (organic and/or inorganic) of known water holding properties.  The seed and matrix compete for available water, coming to equilibrium at precisely the right point for priming to occur. Aeration and temperature are precisely controlled throughout the process. After the process is complete, the seed and matrix are separated and the seed re-dried.

The SMP® method is generally considered the most gentle method of seed priming. Many of the risks associated with other priming methods are not a concern with the SMP® process. SMP® is also the most versatile and flexible method. As a result, it has been successfully commercialized with more crop species than any other method.
