Welcome
to “Right Product, Right Acre” – the
Pioneer Hi-Bred strategy
for delivering customized products tailored to the needs of each
farmer and each acre of land around the world.
The first quarter is typically the strongest new product launch
period for Pioneer as they deliver high-performance seed
varieties to farmers in advance of the planting season. Even so,
Pioneer achieved an impressive 46% increase in new products
launched in the first quarter of 2009 when compared to the same
period last year.
“The Pioneer pipeline is stronger and deeper than at any time in
our 80+ years of serving agriculture,” said Bill Niebur, DuPont
vice president - crop genetics R&D. “The increased investments
in people, tools and technology through the first part of this
decade, combined with a close relationship with our sales teams
and customers, are driving the realization of our promise to
double the rate of genetic gain over the next 10 years. These
new product launches are the culmination of many years of
dedicated efforts by various parts of our entire organization. I
am excited to see these new innovations in the field this coming
growing season.”

Pioneer’s soybean
leadership position was extended with 56 new high-yielding North
American varieties.
As part of the Agriculture & Nutrition (A&N) platform, Pioneer
delivered 147 high-yielding corn hybrids for North
America, including a number of triple-stack hybrids. (The term
“stacking” refers to the process of adding traits or genes
inside the corn.) Pioneer’s new triple-stack hybrids are
providing disease tolerance, and improved stalk and root
strength for farmers throughout the “Corn Belt” in the
Midwestern U.S., where corn is the predominant crop.
Pioneer’s soybean leadership position was extended with 56 new
high-yielding North American varieties, including 25 for the
powerhouse Y Series line. Y Series is nearing blockbuster status
and continues to demonstrate an average 5% yield advantage
against key competitor varieties in more than 1,800 on-farm
comparison studies. Some varieties yield 6 to 10% more than
competitive products.
In Europe, Pioneer launched 18 new corn hybrids,
including the undisputed yield winner of several test plots in
2007 and 2008 for the forage market. Pioneer also launched a new
hybrid rice variety in India that has good standability, grain
quality and a yield advantage that is comparable to the leading
competitor hybrid in India. This new hybrid rice won 67% of the
comparisons in Haryana, a key state in the North Indian market.
Wrapping up the line-up for the A&N platform were new
sulfonylurea herbicide blends for the North America and
European corn and cereal markets from DuPont Crop Protection.
The products include Accent® Q and Steadfast® Q for the U.S.
corn market, Granstar™ Ultra™ in Russia and Express® Pro
herbicide in Canada. |
